10 Notes

My niece is getting a root canal!! I thought it was just going to be a filling, but her cavity was that bad.
When they visited last week, my sister and I got on the subject of teething and baby teeth and teeth falling out, etc. My sister mentioned that kids only have 20 teeth. I must have forgotten about that from when I was a kid, but I asked Bella if I could look at her 5 1/2 year old teeth. When I looked, I first noticed how few teeth that kids have! Then I saw that one of her molars had a huge black hole of a cavity in it! My sister was really annoyed because the pediatric dentist just told her 6 months ago that the tooth was fine, but now she had to take her in to get it filled because it’s obviously not fine.
It was funny because Bella felt her tooth and was getting really nervous and started asking a lot of questions about fillings and going to the dentist. My sister informed her that mommy and daddy and Auntie Em have all had fillings and it’s all just an easy, routine, pain-free procedure… all she needed was a “little shot”. Upon learning this news, my niece insisted that her tooth would be okay right where it is. When my sister told her it would rot through and cause the most pain she’d ever felt she declared, “that’s fine, I don’t mind!”
